Place For Me (free) 02:51
Here I sit an toad upon a stool Knowing if I leave my lilypad it will be free But the pond it lays before me and And I know itʼs the place for me. Here I stand an ant upon a hill Fearing if I walk out on the mound I’ll kill the queen But the world it seems to beckon And I know it’s the place for me Place for me; place for me Place for me; place for me This is not the way to raise a fool Show him if he walks out on the job he won’t be free Cuz the day will come when he can’t lift a hand Now darkened roads lay before me Further than I can see Its what we fear that defines us And you can see that nothing’s afraid of me Place for me; place for me Place for me; place for me
2.
donʼt suppose youʼre a bit unsettled Got to where youʼre aiming for Seems to me, every place I pedal Puts me further off my course And all the places Iʼve called home And all the clothes that Iʼve outgrown Will never fit again Iʼve left them all behind for something more And all the people that Iʼve crossed And all the lovers I have lost To reason undefined Searching for a place Iʼll never find, oh, oh, oh Maybe now, Iʼm a little older And passing time distils the truth The only way Iʼll remove this boulder Is if I share what Iʼve gone through And all the places Iʼve called home And all the clothes that Iʼve outgrown Will never fit again Iʼve left them all behind for something more And all the people that Iʼve crossed And all the lovers I have lost To reason undefined Searching for a place Iʼll never find, oh, oh, oh

Direction 02:54
Carving out a path Trying to find a better way Direction is the grand illusion Fielding all the thoughts have gone astray Searching through the past All the faults are on display Clearer than the glass between The pain of doubt that keeps my hopes at bay So now I'm tied, can't get away from what I've retired to Shedding off the cast When the thoughts have gone astray Working towards a goal in mind Besides the one inside is just delay So now I'm tied, can't get away from what I've retired to So now I'll try to make a play Before I decide the course to take for me that's wise To find a gift to give before I reach demise Well I'm searching but it seems I lose The sense of what it means to harmonize And its easier to dwell on this disguise
4.
Walk Like 02:34
You walk like Somethingʼs on your mind Are you gonna leave me baby? Are you gonna go Cuz you look like Nothinʼs gonna bring you back This time, this time It seems like Somethingʼs gonna take you Right away from me any day. I donʼt wanna lose you baby, I donʼt wanna go I donʼt wanna leave thisʻa way, donʼt wanna stop the show Cuz you look like Someone that Iʼd like to keep forever Anyways But I never decided for The strangeness of the gifts that you require Bells and roses die So I gave a little all the time, but youʼre sayinʼ goodbye I donʼt wanna lose you baby, I donʼt wanna go I donʼt wanna leave thisʻa way, donʼt wanna stop the show Cuz you look like Someone that Iʼd like to keep forever Anyways

about

EP SYNOPSIS: Family Cave Debut EP

Since Family Cave formed in Brooklyn, NY in 2003, original members Julio Montero and Jason Shine happen to cross paths serendipitously in Los Angeles, a fitting context for the lurid sweeps of rejuvenation and introspection in the band’s long-awaited EP release “Direction”. On the opening track “Place for Me”, Shine sings eloquently about the angst that outliers bear, conflicted between society’s conventions and fear, taking on “the pond that lays” before all of us. But, the soothingly glorious vocal harmonies of the chorus assure listeners of the beauty of the road less taken. However, Family Cave’s mature observations are not merely confined to the lyrics. In “All the Places”, there’s a well-crafted palette of tropical guitar licks, punctuated by tender vibes (courtesy of the refreshing addition of Kristina Thoergesen on keyboards and background vocals into the current lineup) that surprises midway through the song via a banjo that not only shows the band’s discipline; the dynamic sound illustrates an eagerness to take risks. Family Cave brings all its strengths to the fore on the title track, most notably for its wide range of styles from stomping rhythms, folk ditties, to the more exploratory sections of lush guitar and vocal atmospherics reminiscent of Radiohead’s early ballads. – Mundo Rivera
